2)To kill (people) in large numbers; massacre.
To kill in a violent or brutal manner.

Horse Slaughter is an a horrible affair, killing thousands of horses per yer. it is estimated that about 70,000 horses are slaughtered per year. that means about 5833 per month, about 1458 per week, about 208 per day, and about 8 per hour.
