A Petition To Reinstate Public School Bus Service To Briarwood Subdivision, Houston, Harris County, Texas.

Whereas: The 80th Texas State legislature has allocated funding to provide transportation for school-age children living with hazardous traffic conditions within two miles of their zoned schools,

Whereas: The Briarwood Subdivision has experienced a complete erosion of its school bus service without redress or rebate of its school property taxes,

Whereas the residents of Briarwood cannot deliver their children to and from school without leaving them unsupervised on school grounds for several hours or risking their own employment to provide cartage,

Whereas: The residents of the Briarwood subdivision had purchased homes based on the availability of public school transportation which has been effectively removed, and the property value of said homes has likewise been eroded.

Whereas: The children must cross Dairy Ashford and walk a full mile down Westheimer during rush hour to get to their assigned campus bus stop,

Whereas: The children have to cross three of the four major thoroughfares to walk to their zoned school, (Westheimer, Briar Forest, Dairy Ashford and/or Eldridge),

Whereas: Crime in this police beat (20G70) has risen 68\% in the nine months since these cutbacks were enacted, half of which is concentrated at morning and evening rush hour.

Whereas: The construction sites on Enclave Parkway, Forkland Drive and Eldridge Drive present an unreasonable hazard to the children walking or biking to Westside High School, Westbriar Middle School, and Ray Daily Elementary.

We, the residents of Briarwood Subdivision, petition board of directors of the Houston Independent School District to reinstate the bus stop formerly located at the corner of Briarwest Boulevard and Briarwest Circle to serve Ray Daily Elementary School, Westbriar Middle School, and Westside High School. Additionally, we are requesting an additional route to accommodate Westside High schools Thursday 9:30am first bell.
