A Stand Against the Sexual Exploitation of Minors

I call upon you to please acknowledge the perverse and exploitative nature of child pageants. Reality television shows such as Toddlers and Tiaras (on the TLC network) expose the nature of such pageants, which are best explained as the nursery school version of Miss America. If you are unaware of the agenda that is forced onto girls as young as three years old, I urge you to take the time to watch the program. Guardians that enter their girls into such competitions nearly always apply makeup and other adult products to children's faces and bodies, and girls are often seen wearing false eyelashes, revealing outfits, high heels, and sometimes even padding to suggest development. The sexualization doesn't end at a cosmetic level, however; suggestive dances, answers, expressions, and songs are likely to be part of any given act. Girls under 16 years of age can not make an adult decision as to whether or not they would choose to display and use their bodies in this way. Several studies have been conducted surrounding this subject, and many prove that girls that were entered into these competitions eventually struggle with issues concerning sexual expectations, eating disorders, performance anxiety and low self esteem in adolescence and adulthood. This is not harmless fun. If you are a parent, please consider how you might feel about your own young child being forced to perform in such a way. Please feel free to contact me at either [email protected] or [email protected] with questions, comments, concerns, findings, clips, or anything you feel is relevant to this cause. I am happy to provide anyone with footage, articles and studies supporting my argument.
