Abolish Florida Fcats
We the undersigned are petitioning the State Of Florida and Governor Jeb Bush .To Abolish Florida Fcats (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test).
We the undersigned feel these tests are no longer being used for assessment purposes. They are now being used for the sole determination of graduation. . It has turned our classrooms into testing prep centers. Lets get our teachers back to teaching instead of prepping for testing. It has become a substitute for the curriculum instead of simply a measure of it.
Florida Fcats are also being used for determining federal funding to our schools. Under developed schools are recieving less funding. Therefore leaving behind children with disabilities such as ADHD or ADD.
Children are being stressed and becoming depressed. This sort of thing is what can encouraging them to drop out, due to the feeling of failure. Which may start incurring a higher drop out rate. We believe if a child proves him or her self-176 days out of the year a single test should not determine them going to the next grade. Children attending school for 13 years and receiving good grades , should not be deprived of a high school diploma over a Florida fcat test. The law does not allow them to be promoted for "good cause. Our children have a right for a better education system. Florida fcats do not provide this very thing.
Therefore we the undersigned are asking for the Florida fcat test to be removed out of our education system and our classrooms. For the benefit of our children.
