Petition re: Changes to the Disability Support Pension
We, the undersigned, know that the current level of Disability Support Pension is just enough to enable us to survive. Many people with disabilities face extra costs as a result of their disability that able bodied people do not have. Further it can be assumed that the majority of people with a disability will remain for life in this precarious finwancial situation. Yet we receive the same amount as mature aged pensioners.
We do not have the same opportunities as able bodied people to find work, we are disadvantaged in regards to access to transport, education and often to health services.
We therefore respectfully request that the Disability Support Pension stay at the same level as it is currently and that people who have higher extra costs due to their disability receive an extra disability allowance on top of the existing pension.
Further should elements of mutual obligation be introduced to the DSP we demand that the Commonwealth Government guarantees to reimburse people with a disability for the extra costs of transport and communication these obligations cause
