Petition Against A Saugeen Shores Walmart
Whereas:
1. An 11,148 square metre (120,000 square feet) development has been proposed by a company called Shoreline Shopping Centre on a parcel of land on Highway 24 on Port Elgins southern edge. The proposal refers to a large department store and four additional buildings for a total of 16,350 square metres of retail space and
2. This store will have detrimental effects on the surrounding community, including increased traffic on already stressed surface streets, harm to local businesses, and a negative impact on neighbourhood integrity, and
3. An increase in local traffic and harmful emissions will negatively affect environmental quality and the physical health of neighbourhood residents as well as the ability for public safety and
4. As citizens of Saugeen Shores we are concerned about the long term implications of this retail development on the economic and social health of our community.
We request that the town of Saugeen Shores act to prevent the construction of a Walmart store at this site.
