Hundreds of thousands of people die every year from smoking cigarettes and not only them but also those around who get their second hand smoke. They have made Marijuana Illegal for these reasons you will soon read, I want you to think is a cigarette yet so different? Or worse?
So why is marijuana illegal? The DEA has issued Marijuana as a Schedule I substance under the controlled substances act. Schedule I pretty much means: Drugs are classified as having a high potential for abuse, no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States, and a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision. This is what our nation has had to say about Marijuana. For all of you who dont know, Marijuana does cause health problems such as: Respiratory problems that tobacco smokers have, acute chest illness, heightened risk of lung infections, and obstructed airways, cancer in respiratory track and lungs, short term memory damage due to THC in marijuana.
You can see this is how our DEA, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration feels about Marijuana. They consider this to be a substance which people can abuse, and there is no good health coming out of it. Which is not difficult to see why, marijuana was made illegal, when something is bad and wrong for the people it is made illegal in the subject of narcotics. Cigarettes seem yet to go unnoticed. It seems what is going unnoticed is what is hurting people and others around them. If tobacco companies feel just raise taxes on cigarettes to use for an excuse to keep them around and say this will prevent young adults to buy them and will use all the revenue that is made with that extra money to help, and support the ongoing research with cancer, and with the nursing programs, and for children hospitals, etc. If this is the case they are pretty much making people who buy cigarettes pay those extra taxes so when they become sick from their product the money they spent on buying their product will help with the research to now try and cure them. This is ridiculous. This is the reason why they raised cigarette taxes so high. How about making them just illegal for what they are made of and ALL the HARM that they cause people.
For starters looking at everything cigarettes are made of are called toxins, marijuana is a plant and thats illegal. Cigarette companies know what is going into these and know how bad the toxins are but dont care. These are a few of what goes into cigarettes and nothing is being done. They have Polonium-210 (radioactive isotope). Urea, which you also have in your urine, and comes out in cigarette smoke, cinnamaldehyd found in dog and cat repellent. Toluene in cigarette smoke, its in gasoline and dynamite. Hydrazine (rocket fuel) Geraniol (pesticides) Formaldehyde (keeps people from decaying) Hydrogen Cyanide my favorite for all those smokers, its used in prison executions.
All these toxins are killing people, killing young adults and children. No one is doing anything about it. Think about all the harm that is being done with smoking. Those companies dont care about who buys them just as long as they can sell them. Doesnt matter to whom right? Wrong! Many are being hurt just to make a quick buck. If Cigarette companies could inform their buyers what they are buying and what they are going to do to their bodies I dont believe that they would purchase them at all. Hitting these young adults that majority of smokers admit to smoking their first cigarette under the age of 18 is ridiculous. Whats wrong with this, everything! Cigarette companies should have all their employees smoke their product and let them get the diseases that come from smoking over years. These toxins cause illnesses which there are no cures for so these people literally cant get help. People who smoke get (Atherosclerosis) hardening of arteries, plaque buildup do to the toxins in Cigarette smoke. This is actually the #1 killer in the U.S. This is actually the most common first affects of smoking. Most common diseases that people know about are: Lung cancer, Lung disease, Heat attack Stroke, Oral cancer, Facial wrinkles, Early menopause, Low birth weight babies for those women who are just ignorant or dont have the proper knowledge of what cigarettes can do to harm their unborn child. Again besides the 400,000 + deaths a year from smoking, guess what not just smokers are dying, people that get second hand smoke also die and get diseases that smokers do; Lung disease, Heart disease, Lung Cancer. People who chose not to smoke also have to suffer from those who do smoke, thats just not fair. Again, Cigarette companies dont care! Adults are not the only people being hurt children get hurt from being around second hand smoke they also have health effects. They have Growth and development problems asthma and other respiratory problems middle ear conditions etc. It goes on; many people argue making cigarettes illegal. Some people say things like:
*Just what we need more government intervention into our private lives and a black market cigarettes that we can kill each other over. This is as dumb an idea as they get. Move to a communist country we don't want your kind in the US.
*Making cigarettes illegal sounds good. It could save lives. But it won't work. People will both make them and sell them illegally, or smuggle them from some other country. This will swell another country's treasury at the expense of yours.
*The big tobacco companies are extremely powerful and have political pull, therefore cigarettes will not be made illegal. The government makes significant sums of money on the taxing of tobacco products, and the taxes continue to rise.
*No, its my right to smoke. I dont lose work, or cost taxpayers money because I smoke; I actually add money to the government coffers, so the others can get welfare, and WIC and food stamps.
It doesnt seem smokers are looking beyond themselves and what it causes them, and yes its their freedom of choice which is all they are thinking about. Smokers need to realize that they are harming others! Fine harm your body, dont do it to those who choose to take care of theirs. IF the government wants to argue that they do make lots of money off the taxes made by cigarettes, then they do need to legalize marijuana and other drugs and figure out a way to make money off that to!
People dont get confused with what Im trying to do here, Im not trying to take anyones rights away and Im not trying to over react on anything, just like those who smoke have the right to smoke (which is what they are saying) then I have my right to freedom of speech and petition!
Smoking does cause many controversies with making other things illegal because they also cause harm to people, but we are not speaking about that, I am speaking specifically about Cigarettes. That goes for those who smoke if thats all they have for their argument they need to think of new things say!

If smokers dont appreciate us letting them know what harm cigarettes cause them and others then they are really selfish people who are just using their freedom of choice to an ignorant level. Smokers make their opinion and thoughts about freedom of choice very slant! WE need to start somewhere, even if its small and means starting off making cigarettes to be smoked ONLY in certain smoking areas, then move from there so be it.
Yes, it is their choice to smoke and damage their bodies but it is ours not to! And not have to get their second hand smoke. But they are still smoking and hurting others and that is not far, especially when it comes to children, young children and teens. Smokers argue that this will lead to the black market and trafficking of tobacco etc, this already happens with other drugs but that doesnt stop our government from making that illegal does it, no, it sure doesnt. Just because they think that they can put a age limit to buying cigarettes because hopefully people are wiser at the age of 18, is ignorance.
