We request that our application for the Arco Iris Spanish Immersion Charter School (AISICS) be approved by the Beaverton School District. With 37,500 students, BSD is the 3rd largest district in the state, yet we have no charter school options available. The Portland School District has 7 charter schools, Beaverton has 0. AISICS will offer Spanish immersion for those families who want their elementary children to learn a second language, a rigorous academic education, and smaller class sizes to facilitate learning. Beaverton does have 3 elementary schools with Spanish immersion programs, however, these are full and are not open to out of boundary students. 39\% of our district students are minority, with the largest minority group being Hispanic. We have a need for this and the Oregon Dept of Education recognized that need and provided a grant of $495,000 for us to start this. Please approve our request to improve the educational options for our children!
