Block the "Rally for Islam" on July 25,2004

We do not protest against the religion of Islam as a whole or the many millions of its followers. The past few years have proven difficult for the religion, especially to those who embrace the true spirit of the faith. The religion is credited as the fastest growing religion on the planet, and in the United Kingdom, alongside Sikhism.
However the spirit of this rally does not represent the true spirit of Islam. It symbolizes the voice of extremists within a segment, a voice that is unfortunately disproportionate relative to its size. The voice is one of intolerance and ignorance of other faiths and under a veil of warm acceptance the rally renounces the practices of non-Muslims, secular and non-secular alike.
Through subtle misdirection and blatant ignorance of other religious truths the flyer, which is being aggressively distributed throughout Great Britain, only reveals the true spirit of the rally. The flyer deliberately ignores the organic nature of Hinduism, falsely asserts Sikhism as religion built on idol-worship, and calls British Prime Minister Tony Blair a dictator. While focusing on societal failings of other religions and ignoring their religious truths, the flyer does the opposite when looking at Islam. The spirit of religious tolerance and social justice both go ignored.
There have also been widespread claims of forced conversion to Islam. Though this may be true for most religions, the spirit of this rally and the growing fear of forced conversion among Sikh and Hindu communities can not go unnoticed.
London is the birthplace of modern western democracy, and Britain has proven many times throughout its history to be the model of tolerance, religious and political, for its citizens. We the Undersigned call for a halt to this rally. Not as an attack on freedom of speech, but to protect the primary inalienable right of all peoples to live their lives as they best see fit.
As per the European Charter of Human Rights, the right to life, liberty, and security of person supercedes the freedom of peaceful assembly and association. Given the backlash to this proposed rally, one can not guarantee that assembly to be a peaceful one. To protect all people the rally should not be allowed to take place.
