Dear Editor,
We. the undersigned, are appalled at reading the article titled 'A Baby for Gay, Deaf, Mute Couple? Its Cruel' in the June 20 edition of your newspaper.

In this day and age, where persons who are deaf and mute are not considered the 'disabled' but as 'physically challenged' and at a time when the Delhi High Court has upheld the civil liberties, particularly the right to life and equality of LGBTIs, the tone, tenor and underlying presumptions in the article are totally retrograde and bigoted. Under the guise of advocating the child's interests, the article argues that gays, deaf and mute persons cannot and will not make good parents, and hence the child is subjected to cruelty. We object to and challenge the assumption in the article that physically challenged persons and persons of a different sexual orientation are abnormal, diseased and therefore undeserving / incapable of parenthood.
We are disappointed with your newspaper for propagating such a narrow-minded view and call for a more responsible editing.
