College Football National Championship Game (Southern California vs. Auburn) to Benefit Tsunami Victims

On January 4, 2005, the undefeated University of Southern California defeated previously undefeated Oklahoma University 55-19 at the Orange Bowl game in Miami, Florida, to claim the Bowl Championship Series, the de facto NCAA football national championship. However, their championship is not undisputed. Auburn University also completed the season with a 13-0 record and its coaches, players, and fans have claimed a share of the national title that they never receieved the chance to play for.
While the controversy surrounding the college football national championship is clearly meaningless in light of the horrific events in Asia, it does provide an opportunity to provide relief for those affected by the disaster. We, the undersigned, call on the University of Southern California and Auburn University to play each other on January 29, 2005 (the National Football League's "bye" weekend between its conference championship games and the Super Bowl) at a neutral venue, with all proceeds from the game (to include gate reciepts, concessions sales, and TV rights) going to disaster relief in Asia and Africa.
The victorious school will have undisputed bragging rights as the best team in college football during the 2004-05 season; more importantly, however, both schools and their fans will have contributed generously to a vitally important cause.
