We, the undersigned, call upon the University of Nottingham to take the proper steps to ensure that the University does not invest in or do business with companies that violate, or aid and abet violations, of international law. We note the Universitys past and ongoing contractual relations with such companies as Veolia Ltd [1][2] and Eden Springs Ltd who, directly or through their subsidiaries, are widely acknowledged to aid and abet violations of international law through their servicing of illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank and the Syrian Golan. We ask that changes are made to the Universitys policy to ensure divestment and an end to future business relations with such companies. Given that divestment helped end systematic apartheid in South Africa and greatly advanced the dialogue on human rights violations in the Sudan, we believe that it can generate a positive pressure to challenge ongoing violations of international law.
For more information on how these companies facilitate violations of International Law and the University of Nottingham's obligations as a public body visit: http://www.facebook.com/#!/home.php?sk=group_183002701744661&view=doc&id=183003351744596
