Dogs rights to retroactive treatment

Our 19 months old Old English Sheepdog (Bobtail) practically died after contracting Korman virus. This is a very strong virus attcking the dog's lower bowel. Most young dogs recover (Between 8 and 9) as long as they are healthy, of tsrong constitution. On day 3 of his terrible illness our dog is showing signs of improvement.



We spoke to the Vet who told us that, and unfortunately, to this day no one has bothered marketting retroviral drugs for dogs. Such drugs work wonders on humans, take for instance HIV and AIDS when they allow a person to lead a reasonably healthy life for many years, despite such a strong killer virus.



In the case of dogs, retroactive drugs would have enabled our dog to recover quicker and they could make the difference between life and death for older or not as healthy ones.



Dogs are as worthy a cause as humans are and deserve the best treatment we can give them to repay us for the unconditional love they give us. In our instance, had our dog died, we would have lost our baby. In teh case of an elderly person, when one's dog can be one's sole companion it can prove just as devastating as it would have, had our baby not shown he was really fighting for his life, willed by our love and the necessary monies to keep him in intensive care at our local vet hospital.



We ask drug companies to think about their lack of progress when it comes to saving dogs lives. Were they to introduce retroactive medicatoins for dogs, they would save many more lives, giving ordinary human beings the joy to keep their faithful companion with them for longer, instead of watching them die due to a virus that to this day has no vaccine, no treatment either.
