We, the undersigned Roman Catholics, respectfully demand that the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops abolish the widespread use of "short form" Scripture readings in the Catholic Mass. No lector, deacon or priest should be given the option of truncating the Word of God. It is an embarrassment to our Church that this option even exists, as it deprives the Faithful of the complete message of Scripture, and confirms the anti-Catholic prejudices of the Church's enemies. It sends a horrible message to Catholics and non-Catholics alike. We have seen verses omitted for politically correct reasons (such as with Ephesians 5:22) or to simply make the Mass a bit shorter. This is a scandal for the Church and a thing of shame for God-fearing Catholics. Remember the words of the Book of Revelation 22:18-19: "I warn everyone who hears the prophetic words in this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words in this prophetic book, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city described in this book."
Please end this embarrassing symbol of lukewarm spirituality.
