Equality and Justice in ages of Consent - Amendments to Sexual Offences Law 1990

We, as citizens of Jersey, regardless of Human Rights Conventions or the lack of discriminatory laws that are not yet in place, are entitled morally to our Human Rights. These include:

Right to Life
Prohibition of Torture
Prohibition of Slavery and Forced Labour
Right to Liberty and Security
Right to a Fair Trial
No Punishment without Law
Right to respect for private and family life
Freedom of thought, conscience and religion
Freedom of Expression
Freedom of Assembly and Association
Right to Marry
Right to effective remedy
Prohibition of Discrimination
Derogation in time of Emergency
Restrictions on political activity of aliens
Prohibition of abuse of rights
Limitation on use of restrictions and rights

We, as signators of this petition disagree with the current legislation
"Sexual Offences Jersey Law 1990", it openly discriminates on the grounds of sexual orientation. The ages for consent to homosexual intercourse are unfair and unjust and should be equalised with that of the heterosexual community.

Therefore, we request that the committees responsible for this new legislation, present the final draft to the States of Jersey by 1st November 2005.

We also support that in failure of meeting this, we will forward our complaints to the Home Office, Council of Europe and European Consulate.

Discrimination is abhorrent in principle and should be eradicated wherever it is found.
