Establishing an "SEZ" in Hubli- Dharwad

Sub: Petition for establishing an "SEZ" in Hubli- Dharwad immediately.


Respected Sir,

We the students & staff of Hubli- Dharwad request you, earnestly, to
establish a "Special Economic Zone (SEZ)" in Hubli-Dharwad
immediately.

Many IT firms have participated in the IT INVESTORS MEET held
recently at Hubli. Many of them are showing keen interest in starting
their centres here, & they have expressed that they will start if
Hubli-Dharwad is given the status of SEZ. Hubli Dharwad is a tier II
city & is ideally suited for IT investments.

Hubli-Dharwad had been neglected by the earlier Bombay Government as
this area was under Bombay State before the re-organization. After
re-organization, again, this area has been terribly neglected as it is
far away from Bangalore. It is high time that the Government does
something concrete for this area instead of simple lip sympathy. If
major IT firms set up their centres here, then this area will
automaticall grow & develop. The government has to facilitate this
activity by setting up the SEZ here. I understand that there is very
little time for applying to the central government for this. Maybe an
initial document can be filed first, & then a detailed document can be
filed.

KIADB has set up an SEZ in Hassan, & KIADB can be assigned the task
of setting up the SEZ at Hubli-Dharwad. KIADB must work on corporate
lines so that they meet the requirements of the corporate world. If we
do not act fast, then the firms which have shown interest in setting
up centres here may move to other states.

We appeal to you, to take personal interest in moving this matter at
the State & Central Government levels and take all necessary steps to
make this happen. This can be taken as a very good opportunity to
make a drastic change in this area to convert it from a neglected area
to a developing area, as the next IT Hub in North Karnataka.
