We, the undersigned, are distubed when overhearing an adult tell a young student or their child that they were not "good" at mathematics, yet state that they were able to succeed in life. These comments are destructive to mathematics teachers' efforts to help students learn quality mathematics.
Mathematics is a fantastic subject to study--it is interesting, useful, learnable, and mysterious. We are asking each adult to please help the efforts of all mathematics teachers by keeping all "horror" stories about mathematics to themselves...and perhaps think about re-investigating some interesting mathematics topics on their own.
