Environmentalists have stated that the recent tsunami in Southern Asia, which has killed at least 150, 000 people, have been caused partly by global warming which accounts for the changing sea levels. This have only intensified the probability of these natural disasters. Pollution of chemicals being released in the oceans have resulted in the degradation of stunning corals reefs worldwide.
Global warming also is the cause for melting ice in the arctic. Resting grounds for seals and polar bears have greatly decreased over time as they watch their habitats slowly melt and ebb away. Scientists predict that by 2100, there will be no more ice left in the Arctica chilling possibility. Thus, monumental amounts of water have cause oceans to rise to unprecedented levels. This exposes the likelihood that areas including: Florida, the Netherlands, and the Maldives could actually disappear if levels continue to rise at their current rates.
Numerous cities such as Hong Kong and Mexico City have declared that 2005 will be the most polluted year ever. Concentrations of particles in the air will only increase the risks of cancer incredibly. Chemicals floating in the air due to the improper handling of industrial wastes include nitric acid, sulphuric acid, and phosphoric acid cause harmful acid rain which are slowly destroying forests across all over North America. The United States of America accounts for 25\% of the worlds greenhouse gas emissions.
We call for the ratification of the Kyoto Accord and that George W. Bush discontinue his current harmful actions toward the environment and to join the many leaders of the world in uniting to protect this world of ours.
