To the Human Rights Commission of the United Nation,
According to the latest news a number of political prisoners in Ward 1 of the Evin Jail in Tehran have started a hunger strike since 6th of July 2004 in protest against the suppression of the studentsв movement and the constant harassment of the families of political prisoners by the authorities in Iran. We the undersigned, whilst condemning the repressive measures of the Iranian government, urge you to send and international team of observers to Iran to visit the jails and investigate the barbaric conditions under which political prisoners are detained. We also declare our solidarity with the hunger strikers and demand an end to all political detentions in Iran and an end to the barbaric regime imposed on the Iranian people by the Islamic regime.
