Gender Expression and Identity Protection in Syracuse

Currently, residents of the city of Syracuse are protected from discrimination on the basis of race, creed, sex, color, national origin, marital status, physical and mental disability, and sexual orientation. However, transgender and gender non-conforming individuals are not protected under our citys Fair Practices Law (Local Law No. 17, City of Syracuse). This means that transgender individuals can be denied basic rights, such as housing or employment protections. We ask that you include gender expression and identity to the list of protected classes so that all Syracuse city residents can live and work free from harassment and discrimination.
