Help to stop Ancestry.ca/.com/ etc. from engaging in the practice of negative option billing, where the consumer has no choice but to sign up for their service that will be renewed automatically in perpetuity unless the consumer intervenes.
This has been declared illegal in Canada and in Ontario for good reason: negative option billing is no more than a scheme to separate consumers from their hard-earned money. Businesses using negative option billing bank on some consumers letting their account renew automatically when they didn't want to renew, and just accepting the additional charge!
Many have been burned by this or had a huge inconvenience getting Ancestry.ca to overturn the charges. See these links for complaint and discussion examples:
