We the undersigned hope that Green Party Conference will see the initiation of a ballot of the whole Green Party membership on the creation of the posts of a Green Party Leader and Deputy Leader or Co-leaders, because we feel this change is long overdue.
We hope that these posts can then be filled after a brief consultation and the democratic ballot of the members.
We want this change to happen soon, and we don't want an overly-prolonged delay for the ostensible reason of consultation, that might sap our energies and distract us from from the real business of next year's London Assembly and Local Elections. This is something the Green Party has been discussing for a long time.
We believe in the Green Party as a progressive and vital political force, and we do not want it to be hamstrung any longer. There are too many people that depend on us; the Green message is too urgent for us to not communicate it as effectively as possible to the public at large, and we believe that the use of the term leader is a helpful and appropriate tool in helping us convince the public of the urgent need for a green society and a green world.
