The Roeper Green Crew is a non-profit organization formed by members of the new Environmental Science course at The Roeper School in Birmingham, Michigan. The Green Crew aims to heighten environmental awareness in the surrounding community, and encourages the adoption of a more sustainable lifestyle and a smaller ecological footprint. We strive to reach these goals by:
- Setting a positive example by changing our own ways
- Educating the community about eco-friendly alternatives to destructive habits
- Providing support and resources to other groups desiring to take action
- Doing necessary groundwork and sharing it with interested parties.
Green Roofs
- A green roof can cost up to $13,000 less per year of use than a traditional roof
- Green roofs can last 2-3 times longer than traditional roofs
- Green roofs can reduces summer cooling needs by up to 95\% and winter heat loss by up to 26\%
- On hot days, green roofs can be 25-80 degrees F cooler than traditional roofs
- If all major roofs in a city were green roofs, the overall city temperature would decrease by 12 degrees F
- Green roofs can reduce storm-water runoff by up to 50\%
