Creideann daoine a shнnigh an achainн seo, gur scannal amach is amach й na hathruithe atб beartaithe san Ord Oideachas (Tuaisceart Йireann) 2006 a imreoidh leatrom arнst eile ar an Ghaeilge i dTuaisceart na hЙireann. Tagann an t-athrъ seo salach ar Chomhaontъ Aoine an Chйasta mar aon leis an Chairt Eorpach um Theangacha Reigiъnda agus Mionlaigh. Cuirfidh an t-athrъ seo an Ghaeilge in бit na leathphingine arнst agus laghdуidh sй deiseanna do dhaoine уga Gaeilge a fhoghlaim ag EochairChйim 4 is ar aghaidh. Impнonn muid ar Rialtas na Breataine бit chothrom a chur ar fбil don Ghaeilge taobh leis an Bhйarla, chan ag bun an drйimire, sa chуras oideachas mar a gheall siad sa Chomhaontъ agus nuair a ghlac siad leis an Chairt Eorpach!

Mar aon leis sin, йilнonn na daoine seo thнos go nglactar leis na moltaн у 'Pobal' maidir le hAcht na Gaeilge don dlinse seo.

We the undersigned, hold as scandalous the changes that are being proposed in the Education Order (Tuaisceart Йireann) 2006 which will put the Irish language in a discriminatory position yet again. These changes fly in the face of the Good Friday Agreement and the European Charter for Regional and Minority Languages to which the British Government are signatories. These changes will make Irish the runt of all the languages offered in our schools and will discourage its selection at Key Stage 4 and beyond. We demand that the British government raise Irish from the bottom of the pile to an equal standing with English in our education system, as they promised when signing the agreement and the European Charter.

Furthermore, we the undersigned, demand the enactment of an Irish Language Act, as described in great detail by 'Pobal', for this jurisdiction by the Westminster governmnent.

902. Dr Stiofnd | I thought we left such proposed treatment in the past where it belongs and moved to a position of fair treatment for the native language of Ireland at last. Once again I have been disappointed. Talk of pluaralism and justice seems just hollow words.
