Dear Members of the Genentech Hall Governance Committee,
As representatives of Genentech Hall, we hope that you will consider the wishes of the UCSF Mission Bay community with regard to the recently announced decision to close Cafй 24. As you are aware, Mission Bay is a relatively isolated environment with few convenient, economical places to purchase good meals. After a rocky start with the White Star Cafй, we now finally have an eatery (Cafй 24) that is universally popular. Cafй 24 offers a large variety of well-prepared and well-priced dishes, has friendly personnel, and a very reasonable pass through rate even at the peak lunch hour. The same cannot be said of the recently opened Pub at the Bakar Centerwhich offers few dishes, with poor preparation of cooked dishes, high prices, and exceptionally slow service, such that it could not possibly accommodate a lunchtime rush.
Because so many of us rely on the cafй in Genentech Hall for meals and snacks on a daily basis, we urge to consider our wishes. We would like to emphasize that this cafй serves not only as an eatery, but also as a popular setting for informal scientific discussion, meetings that frequently occur by chance e.g. after seeing someone who works on another floor. Obviously, with a less appealing cafй, these impromptu meetings will cease to occur.
We like Cafй 24. It is a known commodity that functions very well in our work environment. Please allow it to remain here.
