The Upper Canada District School Board has issued a report - Building for the Future Pupil Accommodation Review. One of the options given in the report includes the closure of Sweet's Corners Elementary School, pending ministry funding to build a new school in Elgin. Sweet's Corners is a vibrant educational facility that is also a pillar of its surrounding community. It is an accessible building with room to grow its student population. It is situated on extensive grounds that include a full-size track, soccer fields, playground equipment, many trees and, coming soon, an outdoor classroom. A very active parent advisory council has worked hard in recent years to improve the outdoor area as well as funding new electronics for the school. Closing this school could cause real detrimental effects on the health and wellness of its students and the success of its community.
