ODDS AGAINST YOU?
CALL THE EQUALIZER!
Remember that etched on your mind catchphrase? If you do, youll know that it belonged to none other than the first-class CBS small-screen programme, The Equalizer. The sleeper television hit of the 1980s, has yet to await its very first, and official introductory DVD release (via a well-made 1st Season DVD box-set), as well as the unusual theme music, spectacularly made to perfection by the founder of The Police and Sting, Stewart Copeland (also via a digitally re-mastered CD Soundtrack).
Starring British television legend, Edward Woodward, who prior to establishing a rather un-thought of, unique and original heroic symbol, and who also claimed the lead role in one of the most popular British series of all time, Callan, which lasted for 5 years, beginning in 1967, The Equalizer was a exceedingly refreshing and compelling concept, and still is till this day.
That concept was of one mans struggle to wash away the memories of which had longed to stay attached to him, since his serving as a high-ranking operative for a classified, rather hush-hush intelligence division, always referred to as The Company, conceived within the C.I.A., although at some points, it was thought whether this Company was actually that of one of Americas leading intelligence organisations.
Whilst he tried so hard to dispose of these rather frightening emotions, which were to be revealed completely, and in-detail during the latter seasons, he also attempted with extensive effort to bring his sons best interests to his heart and life, and still act as a for-hire professional and private eye, with a gun, who would be contacted via his to-the-point slogan ad in the New York newspapers. Dubbing himself The Equalizer, he would promise to equalize the odds that were in opposition to those whose lives were being threatened, with forthcoming death.
What spawned from this was a perfectly executed, thought-provoking, intellectual series, which contained both exceptionally innovative and imaginative story telling, flawless acting, and the astounding and supreme production standards. Even the star himself received immense recognition of his violent, gritty, but outstanding and emotionally impressive role, by winning the Best Actor category at the Golden Globe Awards, in 1987, following the 3rd Season. Not only did he receive this, but also in the mid 1990s, the UK voted The Equalizer as the hardest man in a Channel Four documentary, entitled TVs Top 10 Hardest Men, which shows that the show still has its massive cult following, after 14 years, since it was cancelled by CBS in 1989.
Created by an underrated television mastermind by the name of Michael Sloan (who went on to have producing involvements in television movies, made from memorable vintage series such as The Six Million Dollar Man, Columbo, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and The Bionic Woman), and associate of the President of Paramount Studios, Richard Lindheim, their instantly successful design was present in a primetime mid-week timeslot on CBS for 4 seasons, following the September 18th, 1985 premiere transmission date of the 45-minute Pilot episode, with the shows finale 88th episode, Suicide Squad, airing on August 24th, 1989.
The mind-blowing storylines, the slick directing, the witty, intelligent and knowledge-based script writing, the towering and advantageous production values (with honourable thanks to the city of New York although originally, the show was to be filmed in Los Angeles), Stewart Copelands chilling and aspiring theme music, and the adult, maturity performances kicked in by Edward Woodward, the late Robert Lansing, and the other recurring co-stars, were unfortunately discarded of after that ending date.
But, you may be able to enjoy the show, in its complete entirety, in the beautiful digital form known as DVD a format that will guarantee that once you buy the best prints of the series available, both audio and visual quality will not disintegrate, and also enjoy that thrilling theme music and the various stunning episodic compositions, (unedited and cleaned up) but not only composed by Stewart Copeland. Cameron Allan, John Cacavas and Joseph Conlan, filled his shoes when he left the series after the 2nd Season, who became just as good as him at the job.
If you want to experience the matchless, incredible entertainment that was provided by The Equalizer, and its remarkable theme music, please sign this petition, so that Universal Studios realise that there really is a strong, eagerly awaiting consumers base, and not to produce a worthless, poorly-made product, which is full of packaging errors (mostly spelling mistakes on cast & crew credentials), but by putting in more extensive and enthusiastic effort in searching for archived materials, providing top-of-the-range picture and sound quality, designing professional and eye-catching artwork, triple-checking for any minor and major mistakes, and creating a package which will certainly do lawful justice to the series.
