NASCAR: Do Not Change Qualifying Procedures

NASCAR, in their continued attempt to grow into a big sport, has supposedly, and is highly likely to, institute a new procedure in qualifying. This new procedure would guarantee the top 35 in owner's points a spot in the field no matter what happens in the qualifying session. This is biast towards the best of the best, and will not give a fair chance to newer teams. If instituted, this qualifying format will do one of two things...
1) Guarantee The Top 35 in Owner's Points a spot in the field, regardless of what happens, with 8 spots being avalibile to other teams, and possibly one to a past champion. (Ex. If the five slowest times were posted by cars in the top 35 in owners points, they would get the last 5 spots in the field, regardless. So no matter the efforts of those 5 teams outside the top 35 who posted fast times, lets say in the 25th, 27th, 29th, 31st, and 33rd positions, they would be sent home per this rule, and not be given a chance to race even though they were fast)
2) Give the top 35 spots in the field AUTOMATICALLY to the top 35 in owners points, giving the cars outside the top 35 only a chance to qualify 36th-43rd. (Ex. A car outside the top 35 in owners points clocks in the fastest time for the pole, but, due to this new rule, will start 36th. This is unfair as he would literally be screwed out of the pole award, and the other benefits of a high qualifying position like pit selection).

This new system will pretty much take away from the one-off part time teams, the drivers who have retired to limited schedules, R&D cars from the full-time teams, and even a full-time team who shall fall outside the top 35 in owners points. One of these teams could end up at one point in the season being a DEI, Hendrick, Ganassi, or anotehr powerhouse team. I believe at one point during the season, Michael Waltrip and the #15 DEI Team were 40th in owners points. Under this new system, he would have a good chance at going home. So, this does NOT guarantee all the full-time teams to get into the show, some can still miss. So, I ask that NASCAR please reconsider changing their qualifying procedues, and keep them the way they are.

Two instances where this would become a problem is at races with big purses, like Indianapolis and Daytona, AND Road Courses, where Road Course ringers are in extra cars fielded by full-time teams. The entry lists get so big that the fields become extra competitive. With this new qualifying format, it would be hard for the ringers to make it into the race or get a decent position, and, it could force full-time teams to remove their primary driver from the car for those one or two races. This is a problem because championship points would not go to that driver, and could potentially have an impact on the title race, especially with the chase system. The big purse races, like Daytona and Indianapolis, would not be as interesing as they have been. The past few years, extra cars fielded by full-time teams and some one-off part time teams have made the race, which is an accomplishment on their part. With this new qualifying format, this would not happen at all because only eight spots would be up for grabs, and there are more than eight extra cars with a legitamite shot to make the field. So NASCAR, please reconsider your format for qualifying. Keep it fair, and not in the favor of big purse teams.
