To: The Residents & Businesses Of Kelowna
We are in drastic need of another skatepark.
We, as skateboarders understand that skateboarding on public or private property is illegal, and at times does cause cosmetic damage. We, as skateboarders, also know that there is two skateparks in the City of Kelowna already, the problem is that City Park Skate Park is extremely outdated and not big enough, and Ben Lee Skate Park in Rutland is at times unsafe to skate cause it gets over crowded.
The City of Kelowna is growing at such a rate with new families and kids moving here, and skateboarding being a favourite sport among kids, safety has become a major concern, not only with families, but the public and businesses alike. WE NEED ANOTHER SKATEPARK!
As some maybe aware of, Vancouver has already made skateboarding legal in the city, becoming Canadas most "skate friendly" city in the country. Vancouvers way of dealing with skateboarders isn't to try and stop them, but to try and give them space where they can skate safely. In the city alone, there is over 20 skateparks, with a new, state of the art "street style" skatepark being built as I write this petition.
As far as a location, good areas would be in the Mission district, or a re-construction of City Park Skatepark, with the theme of street style, so it would blend in seamlessly with the surrounding areas. The major demographics show the highest concentration of kids in that area.
To us it is simple:
Skateboarders are not welcome in private or public sectorsillegal
There are charities that can help build a new park.
Skateboarders would help build it.
The sport is only going to get bigger, and problems with skating on private property is going to get worse.
So, we give our support and we ask for yours.

Yes, we are in desperate need. Building a new skate park is a major positive to the City of Kelowna because of the decreased damage in Commercial/Resident zones as a result of the new "spot".

you need more stake parks in this town, its discrimination to not allow people who use sakteboards as a mode of transportation and exercise to have anywhere to go! I use to live on Victoria, ever where you went we could skate!

We live in Bellcarra Estates (near to the Kettle Valley Neighbourhood), and find that it takes a half hour each way to drive our kids and their friends to Ben Lee Park. On average it takes two hours of drive time to take and fetch them for an afternoon of

we really do need it, as it stands we have no place to skate. plus, making this would relieve the streets of us, something I'm sure you would enjoy.
