International Declaration: No War, No Appeasement, Yes to Democratic Change in Iran by the Iranian People and their Resistance

The threat of Islamic fundamentalism, as witnessed in Iran, Iraq, and other parts of the world, is a serious threat to world peace and security. Ahmadinejad's policies and nuclear ambitions have threatened the peace and stability of the Middle-East and the whole world. There is a need for a modern, democratic and tolerant alternative to the current regime of Iran. The best way to do this is through the Iranian people themselves.

The Iranian regimes increased meddling in Iraq has greatly destabilized that country. Recently, independent and nationalist Iraqi forces warned that their major obstacle for a stable Iraq is the spread of fundamentalism by the Iranian regime. In addition, the Iranian regime has been condemned for its human rights violations 53 times by various UN bodies. Also, there has been some 120,000 executions on political grounds, the murder of the Canadian photojournalist Zahra Kazemi, repression of ethnic and religious minorities, and suppression of a free press.

The only viable option to prevent another catastrophe in the region is a solution by the Iranian people themselves. Any other option runs the risk of a devastating foreign war, the spread of fundamentalism, terrorism, and/or a race for nuclear weaponry. Clearly, the Western appeasement policy towards the ruling Iranian regime in the past two decades has failed miserably. One of the most devastating consequences of this appeasement policy was to yield to pressure from the Iranian regime to list the main Iranian opposition (PMOI) as a terrorist organization. The PMOI advocates a modern, democratic and tolerant alternative to the current regime of Iran. The West should not be undermining efforts by the Iranian people to create a democratic, tolerant alternative.

Most recently the call for justice and delisting of PMOI was echoed by 50,000 Iranians who had gathered in Paris on June 30th to show their support for Ms. Rajavi's third option for a democratic change in Iran.

We hereby urge for the de-proscription of the main Iranian opposition group (PMOI) and support democratic change in Iran.
