Please appeal John Thompson's Probation Setence

We, The Undersigned, are appalled at the recent decision by Cheyenne County District Judge Kristine Cecava to sentence convicted sex offender, Richard W. Thompson, to 10 years probation in lieu of any prison time. Justice Cecava's ruling cited Mr. Thompson's height (5'1") as the main factor in her decision; she was concerned for his safety as his small stature could potentially put him in harm's way during his time in a state penitentiary.





Mr. Thompson was convicted of inappropriate and repeated sexual contact with a 12 year-old girl. We, The Undersigned, believe that his crimes are very much deserving of full punishment under the law. There are protections in the penal system and in the State of Nebraska available to prisoners under threat. There are also individuals in the system of smaller stature than Mr. Thompson.





Moreover, we would like to declare our unequivocal support and encouragement to Nevada's attorney general, Jon Bruning, in his promise to appeal this completely ludicrous and irrational sentence within the next two weeks.
