At the time of this writing, it has been 12 years since POD - Planet of Death has been released on the Windows PC platform. Support and recognition of this great game on UbiSoft's part has long since disappeared, but the community is still alive!
POD is a solid racer and the gaming world is now ripe for such insane, fast-paced racing as POD could provide, with games like Burnout Paradise and Motorstorm proving this.
We, the Undersigned POD fans, demand a new game in the vein of the original 1997 release. POD 2 Speedzone for the Sega Dreamcast had very little to do with the original POD (hint: we do not want weaponry) and with recent interest in the game on forums, fansites and otherwise, it is very much time for one of the following to happen:
- A completely new POD game is released, potentially open world with a nice storyline. Something engrossing but not overbearingly story-based. The idea of a dying planet with only a few racing survivors with only cars as their weapons of war to leave the planet on the last escape pod. No weapons, no fancy gimmicks like shields, just pure adrenaline-filled racing around a post-apocalyptic Planet IO.
- Re-release the original POD. This could be either on PC, Xbox Live, PSN, etc. All of the above would be great! It would make a great multiplayer game, especially with teams trying to get off the planet and force the others to their doom!
- A Collector's Edition or an update with modern graphics, or at least compatibility with modern computers, would be a great alternative. No need to change too much, just include the cars, tracks, and original gameplay. This could also make a great downloadable game.
- Release a combination of the above - e.g., New POD game with original as a bonus or at the same time. Like Capcom is doing with Street Fighter II and Street Fighter IV. One will generate interest in the other.
