Reallocate UMD Funds

As a member of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS) community, I believe that the allocation of additional state funding to BSOS is imperative for the continued excellence of our university as we compete with other top-25 research institutions. This support would allow BSOS students to benefit from an improved education. BSOS is currently suffering from overcrowded classrooms, high student to faculty ratios, and poorly maintained facilities.
As a member of the BSOS community, I am happy with the results of the reallocation process of last summer, but recognize that the conditions of the College will show little improvement unless this process continues.
As a member of the BSOS community, I look forward to working towards these goals with the administration:
1. Decrease average class size for BSOS students (currently at 67) to the campus average (currently 37)
2. Reduce student credit hours per tenure track facility in BSOS from 784.4 (as of 2007) to the campus average (currently 458.1).
3. Decrease the student-faculty ratio from current levels to the campus average
Thank you again for your support this past summer, and I hope to see further commitment to the social sciences in the years to come.
