Request for MacOS X port of G729 codec

Over the last year, Asterisk on the Macintosh has found many new friends and a community of Asterisk users on the Mac has evolved as evidenced by the launch of a community site at http://www.astmasters.net.
At the same time, Apple's Xserve G5 servers have gained marketshare, especially in the hosted server market due to its good cost/performance, heat-dissipation/performance and space/performance ratios.
As evidenced by discussions on the Macintosh Asterisk mailing list, many would like to deploy Asterisk on Xserve running MacOS X but the lack of G729 codec support for MacOS X makes this a far less interesting option than it would otherwise be.
Although it has been discussed to start a community effort to develop a G729 codec for MacOS X, the required arrangement with the G729 rights holders for royalty payments would be a significant obstacle. As Digium has already got such an arrangement in place, it is felt that it would be much easier for Digium to port its existing G729 codec to MacOS X and release it.
We, the undersigned therefore kindly request:
- that Digium port its existing G729 codec to MacOS X and release it commercially alongside its Linux version.
- that Digium optimise any PPC version of its G729 codec to take advantage of AltiVec and multi-core/multi-CPU PPC970 (aka G5) systems.
