Restore the Technical Director Position

The Technical Director is the technical supervisor for the Spring Dance Concert, the Opera Workshop, the Greek Play, and all other performance taking place in Smith Theatre. Only a Technical Director has the training and expertise to manage these productions so they achieve the standard of excellence Randolph College is accustomed to delivering.
Randolph College has stated that the staff cuts will not affect academic programs. We do not believe this to be a truthful assessment. Removal of the Technical Director position will result in understaffed lessons and productions. Students and professors alike will be overburdened and the quality of the academic experience will suffer. Furthermore, the Technical Director is the professor of the Stagecraft class and the technical production labs. In these classes, students are taught how to safely and responsibly work on all technical aspects of a production to ensure that the show runs smoothly. Removal of this position makes this impossible and again creates a needless strain on the remaining professors and students.
It is the colleges responsibility to insure that future classes and productions are carried out competently and safely in the upcoming academic years. We believe this to be impossible without the existence of a Technical Director.
