George Lee "Sparky" Anderson was one of the finest men to ever grace Major League Baseball. His experience and know-how speak for themselves. He was the manager of the Cincinnati Reds from 1970 through 1978 and was there for the entire era known to all baseball fans as the Big Red Machine. He led the Reds to back to back World Series Championships in 1975 and 1976.
In 1979 he took over as manager of the Detroit Tigers and managed them through 1995. During that time he led the Tigers to a World Series Championship in 1984. While with the Tigers he won the prestigious Manager of the Year Award two times and is number six on the list of all-time managerial wins. He brought more wins to the Tigers Organization than any other manager in the history of the franchise.
While with the Reds he wore the number 10 and that organization has graciously retired his number in 2005.
This is more of a plea or a request to the Detroit Tigers Organization to do the same with jersey number 11, Sparkys number while he managed in Detroit.
I would humbly ask that each of you sign this so it can be forwarded to the Detroit Tigers Organization and a formal request can be made to retire Sparkys number. For each of us who signs this form, we show the organization how dedicated the fan base is and how much we loved Sparky.
What more would it take to have the Tigers retire #11? Three time World Series Champion, Two time Manager of the Year, Hall of Fame Member and a great humanitarian - its the least the Tigers Organization could do.

absolutely sparky was the best! I grew up with the 68 team and mayo smith sparky did wonders with a fabulous squad Go Tigers!
