The petition of the undersigned, residents of the communities of Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge and supporters of those communities elsewhere in the Province of British Columbia want the legislative assembly of British Columbia to listen to our request for a new Family Compensation Act to include compensation upon the death of one's family member for loss of wages, for grief and suffering of loosing a family member, loss of companionship, love, guidance, care, protection and stress. To be able to seek punitive damages for wreckless, dangerous or aggressive acts or conduct.
This act has not been revised or rewritten since 1846 and there is a need to make amendments and changes to the Family Compensation Act. There have been five other provinces throughout Canada that have revised and rewritten this act. Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. This Family Compensation Act for British Columbia is outdated and does not fit the needs of the province or fit the society that we live in today.
