Sacred Heart Colorguard

It has been brought to our attention that Father Jack Graham, Spiritual
Director, has decided that Sacred Heart Color Guard should no longer
continue its affiliation with the Sacred Heart parish. His intention is to
recommend to Msgr. Kelly, Pastor, that this activity sever all ties to
Sacred Heart Parish. This includes no longer using the name "Sacred Heart",
nor using Sacred Heart Hall, unless paying a fee of $160.00 per hour. It is
his opinion that this activity dominates too much hall time and other
activities are being neglected. Personally 15 hours a week is hardly a lot
to ask if it helps keep 18 girls off the streets and out of trouble. These
are girls, most of whom attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and have
proudly represented this parish name nationally. This is not an
organization that has existed for only a short time; it has been in
existence for over forty years. There is much history behind this
organization that these girls are help keeping alive.
Father Graham feels that in the past, color guard consisted of only parish
members. Times change, people change, and so does their sense of commitment.
In order to help this activity survive our rules had to change. Allowing
kids, not from the parish, to come march with our girls was all done under
the parish's consent. We have conquered many obsticles this year and because
of the love we share between us, not only are we stronger, but we are
indestructable. Parish or no parish we will continue to compete. Such pride
is indestructable.
We are asking you to sign this petition, telling the Sacred Heart Church
that we are a vital part of the parish community, as well as the
Winter Guard International family. Please Help keep what few youth
organizations exist, alive. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
