We, the people, are outraged at the Board of Directors of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and their ongoing mismanagement of our tax dollars and transportation priorities.
We demand that our elected officials in the California State Legislature, and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, enact a law that makes the VTA open and fully accountable to the public. Specifically, this law must allow voters in Santa Clara County to directly elect VTA Board members, as opposed to the current practice of elected officials appointing VTA Board members. As a result of the current practice, the people have no direct say on how their tax dollars are spent, and have no say on the day-to-day transit operations at VTA. THIS MUST CHANGE.
