Save Century Public School

Dear OCDSB members, We, the residents of Nepean, petition to have the decision to close Century Public School overturned.
Century Public School is an amazing school that has made our community proud year after year.  Without it, our community would not be whole.
Research shows when communities are broken up and students are disrupted, students' sense of belonging, student performance, graduation rates, and student achievement are negatively impacted. Residents will look to move out of the community to find schools with smaller numbers and less traffic; with the manpower to provide the attention and resources their children deserve. It would also mean that children in our area would have to get up even earlier in the morning to catch the bus or travel.  Studies show that school start times are already to early, and that children require more rest.  Most children do not fall asleep until 10pm or later.
We love having the sounds of laughter and playing in our neighbourhood.  We want our children to have access to the best school the city has to offer. 
Century Public School offers an amazing team.  The staff are caring, sympathetic, and nurturing. They provide a positive environment, support creative thinking, and help students to attain a positive self image, emotional growth, and an understanding of community and social responsibility.
 They teach students to become amazing employers instead of excellent employees.  They help children achieve positive self-discipline and regulation, motivate to aid achievement, influence self-esteem, manifest an all inclusive - accepting student body, and embark daily on a mission to teach students how to be influential in society and create a better world for today and tomorrow.  The students who graduate from Century are socially responsible, caring people that our community are proud of.  The staff are building the empathetic, inclusive leaders of tomorrow. Century Public School is the gold standard in which all schools should strive to emulate.
It is the duty of the board to consider the impact to the community, the students, and the staff.  We do not feel as though we have been heard and, and we urge you to reconsider.  The future of our children and community are at stake.
