This petition is to prevent the closing of Columbia state park. In an effort to reduce the state deficit, it has been suggested that most of California's state parks be shut down. However these state parks are a vital part of state tourism, and they also provide revenue through user fees. Not only this, but they are treasures that are not expendable. Columbia state park represents an important part of Californias history. It is a living, breathing part of that history, and it educates people about California and the gold rush in a way that a textbook cannot. This, and the other state parks, belongs to the people of this state, and the people of this country. The state of California has survived with these parks for years, and they can continue to survive with them. A solution exists for the budget problems, but it does not lie in closing our precious state parks. If you are fond of, or connected to Columbia state park in any way, or you just think an old ghost town is worth saving, please sign this petition to show your support.
