Save Pacific Spirit Park Wildlife

Taking away this part of Pacific Spirit Park is unbelievable. Especially when we are facing the looming climate change and natural disasters, how our government can expropriate or appropriate this triangle parkland and greenway without our agreement? Compared to the whole Metro Vancouver, Pacific Spirit Park is only one of the few sanctuaries for wildlife, which need a complete, not fragmented, sustainable ecosystem. Most of birds and butterflies in your back garden come from wild parks, not from city parks.

The park was established and named in 1989 as "the gateway to the Pacific and a spiritual ground to becoming one with nature." The government as our public servants were committed to save this parkland as a perfect place for community people to actively explore and appreciate the diversity and beauty of the forests and foreshore at the city's edge.

We need to be the voice for the wildlife in the Pacific Spirit Regional Park, the truly native. We cannot ignore the park's ongoing contribution to local communities, be they First Nations people or contemporary communities, of the wildlife including plants and animals and the entire Pacific Spirit watershed. They provide us humanity with fresh air, clean water, food, shelters, materials and medicine. In addition, they bring us joy and uplift our spirits by their sheer presence. They need our respect and protection.

We cannot exchange the wildlife and our health for a man-made golf course. We cannot buy back the trees and wildlife, once they are destroyed and the land is developed. No one, not even the Musqueam Nation, has the right to claim this land and its native wildlife.

My family members and friends have developed a strong sense of community through participating in healthy walks and guided nature walks in the Pacific Spirit Park. We cannot possibly agree to any plan that tries to sell off the Pacific Spirit Park, which belongs to the wildlife and generations to come!
