On-line Petition
Midhurst is a rural village of some 3,500 people situated just north of Barrie, Ontario.
Pursuant to the Ontario Government's "Places to Grow Act", 2005, the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe came into effect in June 2006. The Plan aims to protect prime agricultural land, sustain air and water quality and curb urban sprawl by directing development to built-up areas. The Plan encourages the development of Complete Communities where people can live, work and play, without commuting over long distances.
In November 2008, the Township of Springwater adopted the "Midhurst Secondary Plan" to allow the addition of 28,000 people in three housing nodes on class 1 and 2 agricultural land surrounding the village; and in an area where there is no meaningful employment. The Plan was approved by Simcoe County in 2011, 5 years after publication of the "Places to Grow Act".
This Petition is to protest the approval of a Plan which so blatantly disregards the law.
