Hello,my name's Ariah and I am a student at Greenway Middle School.
My friend and I most recently finished an essay based on our views of birth control in schools.
After presenting to our classes,we realized what a reality this issue is and we want to pursue our actions further and make a difference at our own school.
Currently,the rates for teenage pregnancy have declined by 86\%. This isn't a result of decreasing sexual activity,but a result of the increase in using protection.
Our generation is maturing much faster than then the past and teens ARE sexually active. We believe that our school should make condoms and/or birth control pills available to the students. You can't prohibit sexual activity since this generation is much more rebellious,but you can make it safer.
Providing condoms and other forms of birth control would not only lower the STD rate,but it would decrease the number of abortions performed.
We are aware that any means of protection is never 100\% effective,but that 10\% risk is not as drastic as the 100\% risk with no protection at all.
On estimate,40-50 percent of the students at our MIDDLE SCHOOL are sexually involved. Not in any way would this, providing birth control, support sex or take away a parent's job.
It is simply demonstrating that our school cares. Some may disagree with the activity, but they care for the students and would prefer a safer enviornment.
As for parents, we do understand that this is a personal matter, but we have figured that there could be consent forms to be filled out for those who wish their children to be able to receive the means of protection that they may not be able to come by.
For this cause,we have discussed matters with the principle,but he has taken no action. We, as both students and individuals are going to discuss this matter with the school board.
We hope to have as many signatures as possible echo our voices on this issue. We want the district to hear the voices and consider our views.
Please help us to make this difference for the student body of Greenway Middle School.
