We would like to express our concern with the lack of selection of Cable Service Providers in certain rental properties, occupied mostly by Virginia Tech students in Blacksburg, Virginia. These properties have a contract with NTC Communications making NTC the only choice for cable television and cable internet services, effectively giving this company a monopoly over many college students. This monopoly enables NTC Communications to offer students substandard services at much higher prices than other service providers in the area. The town of Blacksburg, Virginia has decided that the only provider of cable services in the town will be Adelphia Communications. NTC has worked their way around this decision by purchasing basic Adelphia cable service and reselling it at inflated rates. NTC's website claims, "NTC is for college students like you", but as college students, we do not think that paying more for inferior service is "for us". We urge decision makers to rid us of this atrocious monopoly and allow us the opportunity to choose between NTC and Adelphia.
