We, the undersigned, give our support to the proposed amendments to the current bylaw regarding the operations of mobile food vendors in Hamilton, Ontario. We believe that food trucks can be a vital component in expanding and enhancing the food culture of our city. We agree that food trucks do not have negative impact on restaurants or other businesses, but instead encourage people to travel, discover and potentially patronize restaurants and other businesses in the communities in which they operate. We support changing the distance that a food truck can operate in respect to a food service establishment from the current 100 metres from that establishment's property line to 20 metres from the entrance to that establishment. We support abolishing the current permission-based system that relates to said distance, in order to negate the possibility of economic advantage to a property owner based on manipulation of city bylaw. We request the City of Hamilton to allow the proposed bylaw amendment draft to pass as it stands, thereby enhacing and advancing the food culture in our city, and potentially those other cities in Ontario who look to Hamilton as a leading example.
