Greetings! This letter is sent on behalf of the students of Stanford Medical School. We are writing today to voice our concern about the futures of the Medical School Cafй employees. As you know, the contract for the current proprietor of the cafй will soon be ending. We feel that this situation is beyond the control of the employees of the cafй, and we would hope that they will have the opportunity to stay on as employees in the new cafй. Anayansi Aspedilla and some members her staff have worked in the Medical School Cafй for up to 12 years. This shows remarkable dedication on their part. They have developed friendships with many students, and they are always courteous and helpful. They have seen generations of medical students march through the doors of the cafй, and they understand the personality and needs of Stanford medical students, hospital staff, and clinicians.
Thus, we students feel very saddened that Anayansi and Alcides Aspedilla and their staff might soon find themselves unemployed due to reasons beyond their control. After investing so much time in their jobs here, we feel that it probably will be very difficult for them to find stable, comfortable jobs such as the ones they have built here at the medical school. If we are not proactive in making sure that they will still have jobs once the ownership of the cafй changes, we will force them to enter a difficult job market where their dedication will not be appreciated nor rewarded.
Thank you for taking our concerns into consideration. Please contact Margie Teng, the first year class representative or Adeoti Oshinowo, next years vice president if you have any questions.
