Don’t abandon young people – for a fairer future, support and more opportunities are needed.
With limited job prospects, opportunities facing young people as they reach school leaving ages are inadequate and leave many young people in difficult positions. Whether leaving compulsory, higher or further education, many young people are facing tougher decisions about their future career or education prospects. We believe that young people should have access to suitable employment upon leaving education, and have the opportunity for further career progression if they are able and wish to. This petition is calling on the Minister for Employment to provide further support around creating and finding, employment, apprenticeships and similar opportunities for young people.
We ask for this to be achieved by:
•Improving the quality of careers advice for young people, for example by including subjects such as finance and business, to allow young people to be able to reach opportunities more easily.
•Developing support for young people searching for employment, focusing on face to face services in addition to written information accessible to all.
•Providing assistance to those out of employment that may not necessarily directly relate to finding work but possibly also building skills and general employability.
