Unite Eastern Europe

Due to the history of Eastern Europe, the people living there have experienced some very tough times over the years, most notably since the fall of the Soviet and Yugoslav unions

I am a Eastern European. It does not matter if I am Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Serbian, Estonian or Latvian. I am a Eastern European, and every day I am ashamed that our Human Development Index is a step behind Latin Europe. Every day I am ashamed of the division and hate that sprouts for no reason, causing ridiculous strife. I can almost hear the rest of the world laughing at us.

We have fallen on hard times, yes, and the economic downturn projected for the next decade will take its toll on us, sending us even farther back into the past.

I am not saying we make the mistakes of the past and trust one country to lead many with an iron fist through communism and socialism.
What I am proposing is a democratic union, much like the EU, that will be able to allocate supplies and protect the union in the trying times ahead.

If we embrace our past, the incredible highs as well as the spiraling lows, and learn from the mistakes we once made, I am sure we can do in the new millennium what we havent done since the Byzantine Empire.

There is no time like now.

Send letters to the leaders of your cities and countries.
Tell them to start talking with the leaders of other Eastern European countries.
Tell them that you do not want more discord, poverty and hostility.

Tell them the single truth that we all know. Together we are stronger.

Look back through history. Every single time we came together, either through conquest or diplomacy, we have triumphed and excelled in times of want and need. Every obstacle seemed like a stepping stone.

But what happens every time our alliance is broken?

Every single time our unions fractured we have suffered from the vultures that pick each of our individual countries apart.
Apart we are nothing more then a nuisance to the world powers that seek to divide us.

While we squabbled the world kept turning. The world wars and the Imperial conquests that came before that have repeatedly torn Eastern Europe apart from its roots. The rest of the world has developed greatly in democracy and has managed to combine capitalism and socialism into a new philosophy. The Western powers have encircled us, and this is no embrace of friendship. How can we think of them like allies when they seek to foster hate and enmity between what were once allies? They should be helping us unite!

You may ask why I write to you all in a language we associate with Western Europe. The answer is simple and humiliating.

This wooden tongue is the only one known by all of us.

How far have we drifted apart, to not even have a single language we can all speak to one another? Does it not hurt when every diplomatic talk between Eastern European nations is translated into English?

No more.

We are united in culture, united in the history of our nations.
It is high time we form a union we can be proud of.

A union not forced, but chosen.

A union free as any other.

A union which will span from the Pacific to the Mediterranean and the Arctic

Many naysayers will rise up. They will ask: "How, how can we become one again?"
We can turn to wisdom from Asia, where a sage once said that the longest journey begins with a single step (Congfutze, Confucius).

If any two countries in Eastern Europe decide to join together, and their relationship proves to be fruitful and happy, other nations will inevitably seek to join as well.
Any two countries that consider themselves friends can start the avalanche necessary for the full formation of this union.

I ask the citizens of Russia, the strongest of us, to urge your leaders like you have never before. They are wise. They will listen to you.
Tell them you want unification with Byelorussia.
Tell them you want a tighter friendship with Serbia.
Tell them to talk with Greece.

S Bogom.

You must not force a country to join this union. It must be formed in good will and democratic action.

I beg you to have patience.

The union of Russia and Byelorussia is a stepping stone. The very first step Confucius talks about. It must not be rushed beyond the will of the people. Friendships are not made with demands.

So I ask of you as a nameless fellow citizen, write letters to your mayors and your presidents. Ask them to talk with their neighbors.

Each of you carries responsibility for a small part of your country. Each of you can reach out to your neighbor and together ask for an alliance. It will take no more then mere minutes out of your day, and may forever change the region you and your ancestors have lived in for millennia.

Unite Eastern Europe in democracy so we can be a strong part of the European Union. So we can be a strong part of the world.

Send letters to your leaders.
Demand that they consider this proposal.

Sign this petition and urge your fellow citizens to do the same.

Godspeed.
Mark my words the leaders of Russia have already considered it, the only thing stopping them now is the indecision of the people. Tell them to promote supranationalism with every nation of Eastern Europe.
