z103 Counter Petition...HA!

Dear people,

This is a petition to petition the petition against Big Daddy 103.9FM Sudbury (aka z103).

***Note: The author doesn't like Big Daddy or z103, it's not about liking the station's format, but respecting a business' right to make their own administrative and operational decisions.

So there is a petition circulating around by people (most likely young teenage pop-tarts) angry with z103's decision to change their format for whatever reason. They seem to feel as though this was a personal attack against every teenage girl in Sudbury aged 12 to 18. They are digusted with this Big Daddy, a pre-recorded radio persona who they confuse with a real person who is a sexist horn dog that chooses all the songs the station plays...they don't like him at all, Hilary Duff certainly wouldn't approve of him either.

The country that we live in recognizes and respects private business, and their operational and administrative decision making freedoms. Z103/Big Daddy is a private business that has the right to decide what is best for THEIR station.

A format change is a major decision that is never made easily. A great deal of time, projected audience and financial impact analysis, and only comes about at a time when major change is necessary to save a business from going under. Radio stations don't change formats (type of content, like music and spoken word programming) when their current format is working well and turning a healthy profit. It is a act of desperation to save their business and their jobs (making money to support one's family, security and well being). Our country recognizes their right to do so. If this were CBC (public radio) in question, then sure, petition away because you, as a tax paying citizen of Canada, are part owner of this public organization. However, we're dealing with a private business.

So, just because you don't agree with z103's decision, doesn't make it wrong and it doesn't give you the right to petition and try to dictate how people should run their own property. We live in CANADA. This is not a communist country or dictatorship, so stop trying to make it one. So they play Hilary Duff and Kelly Clarkson less often...HOW IS THAT A BAD THING!?

Here's my solution to your problem:
Get an Ipod or mp3 player. Go to Billboard's website or pick up a copy of Rolling Stone magazine and look up the current Top40 pop chart. Spend like 15 minutes on the computer, download these songs. Upload those 40 super polished corporate packaged for mass consumption hit songs onto your brand new ipod/mp3 player. Locate the button that looks like two arrows joined together to make a circle representing a looping cycle. Press it, slide it, whatever. Press play. Et Voila, your own personal pocket sized z103, portable and commercial free!!!

OR: Start up your own radio station and play whatever you want and think that everyone in this city should listen to, because God knows you are the expert on great music! Oh wait, you can't do that because you're a communist that doesn't agree with private business ownership. Damn.

Sign this petition if you agree with private business and their right to make their own operational and administractive decisons. Sign if you don't agree with dictatorship or an attempt at communism. Sign if you don't agree with AIDS and if you think that people shouldn't molest children...lol.
